Welcome, Joi. Tell us how much of yourself you write into your characters.
I write a bit of myself into the characters, mostly how they feel in certain situations.
What is the quirkiest thing you have ever done?
The quirkiest thing Ive ever done was right when my husband and I began dating, I had to go to the dentist. I didnt know if I could flare my nostrils while I was numb. I looked in a mirror, saw that I could. I immediately called my boyfriend (husband now) and told him I could. He told his coworker he was going to marry me.
When did you first discover you were a writer?
I discovered I was a writer in third grade.
Tell us the range of the kinds of books you enjoy reading.
I love reading Christian romance, historical.
Then you might like most of my books. Ive had a lot of historicals published. How do you keep your sanity in our run, run, run world?
I read. J
Yea!! How do you choose your characters names?
I normally ask my family if they like certain names I choose. Sometimes, when they all disagree, thats when I choose a different name. J
What is the accomplishment youre most proud of?
Aside from following Jesus, marrying my husband, and having three wonderful boys, Id say writing.
If you were an animal, which one would you be, and why?
A tortoise. When we lived in California , we had a desert tortoise, and I loved that crazy thing. I just think it would be great to live life at a slower pace.
What is your favorite food?
Pizza!
What is the problem with writing that was your greatest roadblock, and how did you overcome it?
I was stuck on the ending of a book and had to set it aside. Then I started writing a few other novellas, and now I have an ending to the book I had to set aside.
Getting away from a story for a time really will help make the story better when you go back to it. Tell us about the featured book.
The featured book is called Christmas Snowe and Peppermint Cocoa. Snoweflake Jacobson left Maine and her past. When she is forced to come home, she has to come face to face with her past and either accept forgiveness and healing or live in a world of guilt.
Please give us the first page of the book.
Snoweflake Jacobson curled in a ball on her bed in her rented apartment, her stomach churning. She pushed herself off the burgundy comforter. Fast as her aching body could carry her, she inched toward the bathroom connected to her room. Within minutes, she emptied the contents of her belly into the toilet. She swiped the tears from her eyes before they could fall.
Snowe straightened and stole a glance in the mirror above the sink. Lifeless eyes with dark circles under them stared back at her. Her lip curled. She forced down another round of sickness and turned her head in disgust.
Climbing under the covers, she clung to the body pillow beside her and wept. Dear God, what had she done?
